The New Jersey Devils will host their annual Black History Month game on Monday, February 28, 2022, when they face off against the Vancouver Canucks for a 7:30 PM ET puck drop at Prudential Center. The team will wear Black History Month-themed warm-up jerseys for the first time in Devils history, which were created in collaboration with Devils’ defenseman P.K. Subban.
The warm-up jersey’s crest was created to honor and celebrate all Black players and coaches in Devils history and will feature the phrase “A Movement, Not A Moment”. One shoulder will feature a Willie O’Ree patch and on the other shoulder, there will be a Hockey Is For Everyone patch. Every player’s jersey will have the number 22 on the back to honor Willie O’Ree. Within the jersey numbers, there will be a story highlighting O’Ree’s impact on the game and some of the other key Black figured in hockey that he opened the door for.
The jerseys will be available for auction beginning Monday, February 28 and will close on Monday, March 7, 2022, and will benefit the Devils Youth Foundation and the P.K. Subban Foundation. Fans can bid on the jerseys at newjerseydevils.com/hockeyisforeveryone.
