RELEASE: Devils, Nickelodeon Partner for Kids Day on Sunday
The Devils Youth Foundation donate $25,000 to the Newark Day Center as part of the night
The New Jersey Devils will host Nickelodeon Kids Day on Sunday, April 4 as the team hits the ice against the Washington Capitals at 3:00 p.m. Throughout the game in a variety of on-screen content, Nickelodeon characters will be featured on the big screen and on the second-screen experience in the New Jersey Devils app, including characters from SpongeBob SquarePants, Rocket Power, PAW Patrol and more. In addition to the Nickelodeon activations that will occur throughout the game, the Devils Youth Foundation will take this opportunity to continue our ongoing commitment of engaging the youth in the Newark community by presenting an in-game donation of $25,000 to Newark
Day Center in support of their campaign, Third Century Fund: Equity in Education. The Devils Youth Foundation donation will directly impact and alleviate the education and digital inequities exposed by the pandemic and prepare Newark Day Center families for a brighter future. The funding will provide new technology, hardware and connectivity enhancing both in-classroom and remote learning.
“We have been fortunate to have our organization and players engage with Newark Day Center for the past few years and I am consistently inspired by the incredible work of their staff to support the youth of the Greater Newark Community,” said Allison Blitzer, Chair of the Devils Youth Foundation. “Education inequity is one of the largest hurdles in under-resourced communities like Newark. Our donation will equip classrooms with high-quality equipment and internet for early childhood learning and community programming. This upgrade is essential in ensuring Newark Day Center students have the opportunity to learn, grow and compete academically.”
“Newark Day Center represents the past, present, and future of Newark. As the Executive Director of this wonderful agency, I reference the quote stated by Frederick Douglas, ‘It is better to invest in children than repair broken men’,” said Donna Johnson-Thompson, Executive Director, Newark Day Center. “We would like to thank the New Jersey Devils and the Devils Youth Foundation for investing in our children. This outstanding donation will enable the Newark Day Center to bring state-of-the-art technology including laptops, iPads, internet connection and more to our wonderful children and their families to ensure their academic success!”
Newark Day Center is the oldest social services agency in New Jersey, and the third oldest in the nation. For over 200 years, the Newark Day Center has served the people of Newark in a variety of ways. As it prepares for its third century of offering services its primary mission is to provide high quality and caring infant, toddler, and preschool education for over 200 children, ages three months to five years, who live in the Greater Newark area.
